What does an IPL laser do and what are the benefits?
Intense pulsed light (IPL) delivers a vibrant and radiant look as well as targets unwanted red and brown pigmentation spots, boosts collagen production and has skin tightening effects. Our laser technology effectively targets unwanted brown pigmentation such as freckles, age/liver spots, sun damage, large pores and hyperpigmentation.
Additionally, IPL treats red pigmentation such as uneven skin tone, veins, vessels, flushing, rosacea, couperose, mottled skin, spider veins, cherry angiomas, and telangiectasia (superficial red/purple veins). IPL therapy stimulates collagen production which aids in skin tightening to helps reduce fine lines/ wrinkles and promotes healthy, glowing skin.
How many sessions will I require and how long do IPL the results last?
On average 3 to 5 sessions are required to achieve optimal results, treatments are spaced 4 to 6 weeks apart to promote healing in between sessions. You can expect a reduction of unwanted pigmentation, redness, sun damage, and dark spots about 1 week after your appointment.
IPL is proven to give the best results 3 months after all sessions have been completed. To achieve optimal results, avoid UV exposure, commit to skin care maintenance, and daily sunscreen so that treated pigmentation spots do not return. It is recommended that a new series of treatments are done annually to maintain results.
What parts of the body can be treated with IPL Skin Rejuvenation?
IPL Skin Rejuvenation can safely and effectively treat many parts of the body and face, including the neck, shoulders, back, chest, arms, hands, and legs.

Am I a candidate? Who should avoid IPL
-
The best candidates for IPL skin/photo rejuvenation have fair skin (fitzpatrick II and III) versus clients with a darker skin type or tan. Because the pigment in the blood vessel or dark spots is the chromophore (intended) target, any extra pigment in the skin will divert the energy away. Individuals who have darker skin types IV, V, and VI may not be suitable candidates for IPL skin rejuvenation and will require extra precaution and expertise from our nurses to protect your skin. A 24-hour patch test in the area desired to be treated is mandatory.

How painful is IPL?
IPL spa treatments can be painful, feeling like a rubber band snapping against the skin. Pain level varies based on individual pain threshold, treated area, and device settings. Cooling gel minimizes pain, and some devices have built-in cooling. Expect bright flashes and a warm, stinging sensation during treatment. Afterward, the skin may feel sunburned, with redness and swelling that typically subside within a few hours to a couple of days.
What are the after care guidelines for IPL Skin Rejuvenation?
-
You can expect treated dark spots to flake off your skin (this is more typical in diode lasers but can still happen with IPL lasers) within a couple hours or days after your appointment resulting in an improved and brighter complexion. This is a normal response and is indicative of a successful treatment.
-
You can expect the area that was treated may lighten or darken and have a temporary change in pigment. This will generally go away within a few weeks to months and is a normal response and is indicative of a successful treatment.
-
Avoid direct UV exposure (suntan or tanning beds) for a minimum of 7 days after your appointment and use a broad-spectrum UVA/UVB SPF 30+ sunscreen daily after your appointment and throughout IPL Skin Rejuvenation treatments.
-
If you are experiencing any discomfort after your appointment, you may take Tylenol.
-
Avoid activities that will generate heat, rise body temperature, and blood pressure and will cause you to perspire. This includes no working out, hot tubs, baths, showers, saunas, swimming pools for a minimum of 24 to 48 hours after your appointment.
-
You may use a cold pack, cold compress or other cooling preparations to help soothe and alleviate post treatment discomfort.
-
Avoid getting any skin resurfacing or collagen stimulating treatments such as chemical peels, micro- needling, microdermabrasion, and other laser treatments for a minimum of 3 weeks after your appointment.
